I had a manager who exhibited the same destructive envy toward me. Black women are such easy, natural targets that even other Black women get in on the game. The virulent feeling toward us can come from any direction, any perpetrator. It's sinister, hard to imagine, and harder to prove. Remembering that can save your life/sanity.
