I do not believe that the proponents of the Stop Woke Act or other memory laws are at all concerned that authentic history will make white children feel bad about themselves. That is the story they tell to incite white parents/voters to oppose the teaching of authentic history. I believe they understand that white children would become more compassionate toward the suffering of others, which would disrupt the supremacist system from the inside out. We have to push against their true motivations with our own framing instead of responding to their framing as if it were sincere.
