As enslaved people, African Americans were not only forbidden to speak their own languages, they were deliberately separated when enslavers discovered that too many were from the same region and/or spoke the same language. The politics of division was practiced on us from the very beginning. These spurious, distracting arguments are being promoted for nefarious ends by bad faith actors, trust and believe.
